What should I do about the painting of wood glued a mirror?

I have a georgeous mirror that is glued to the wood with great detail. I want to paint pink box dark brown in color gold today /. I'd like to keep the cast if possible. what kind of paint would be appropriate? Could be only with plain old acrylic paint? I get some professional or painting? Thank you!

Acrylic paint and plaster are very forgiving, you can paint and repainted to their heart's content. Gypsum dissolves in water, paint still wet can be cleaned with a damp cloth or sponge, but once it starts to dry, and paint is best left on it to try to wash it. This site gives good advice: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/446833/how_to_paint_plaster_christmas_ornaments.html?cat=24
